Ligament Strains
Ligaments are the rope like structures which hold one bone to another across a joint in the body. These allow certain movements but also prevent the joint moving where it does not want to move. Usually, due to trauma/injury the ligaments can be overstretched and torn. There are three grades of ligament injury, Grade 1 is where the ligament is stretched but no obvious tear is identified, Grade 2 is where there is a partial tear of the ligament and Grade 3 is where there is a complete tear or rupture of the ligament.
Our diagnostics allow us to accurately assess the grade of ligament injury and therefore plan a detailed treatment and rehabilitation programme for you and in some cases refer on to the appropriate surgical specialist, if required, but the majority of ligament injuries we see we are able to treat conservatively.
